Kitara FC wrapped up the first round of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season on a high, edging struggling Calvary FC 1-0 at the Midigo Primary School Playground on Saturday.
The Royals wasted no time in asserting themselves, striking as early as the third minute. Patrick Kaddu turned provider, threading a neat pass into the path of Crispus Asiki, who calmly tucked the ball home to hand Kitara a dream start.
That early breakthrough, however, did not translate into an easy afternoon. Calvary responded with renewed urgency, pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser and testing Kitara’s defensive resolve.
Despite sustained pressure from the hosts, Kitara stood firm, showing composure and discipline at the back to preserve their slender advantage until the final whistle.
The hard-fought victory sees Kitara conclude the first round in fifth position with 29 points, capping off an impressive resurgence. In contrast, Calvary remain rooted to the bottom of the table on just four points, still searching for their first win of the campaign.
Kitara’s season has been a tale of gradual progress. A raft of new signings initially disrupted rhythm and consistency, but head coach Wasswa Bossa has steadily pieced the puzzle together. The improved cohesion has been evident in recent weeks, reflected in a strong run of form.
Over their last eight league outings, the Hoima-based side have collected six wins, one draw and only a single defeat. In that period, only league leaders Vipers SC have amassed more points, underlining Kitara’s upward trajectory.
For Calvary, the outlook remains bleak. The Yumbe-based outfit will need a dramatic turnaround in the second round if they are to escape the looming threat of relegation, with the top flight continuing to prove a stern test for the newcomers.
