Maroons Frustrate KCCA in Stalemate at Luzira

KCCA FC’s inconsistent run in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League continued on Wednesday evening after they were held to a goalless draw by a disciplined Maroons FC at the Luzira Prison Grounds on Match Day 13.

Still smarting from last week’s 2–0 defeat to Police FC, the Kasasiro Boys started on the front foot and enjoyed the better share of possession in the opening stages.

However, dominance did not translate into goals as Maroons stood firm and absorbed the pressure.

The contest kicked off later than scheduled due to the delayed arrival of an ambulance, but once action began, KCCA quickly asserted themselves.

Much of their attacking threat came from dead-ball situations, with Shafik Nana Kwikiriza orchestrating play and delivering dangerous set pieces into the Maroons area.

KCCA’s clearest early chance came from a free kick just outside the box, but goalkeeper Hassan Muyomba Matovu produced a confident save to deny the visitors and set the tone for an outstanding display between the posts.

As the half progressed, Maroons began to grow into the game and created moments of their own, forcing KCCA goalkeeper Charles Lukwago into several important interventions. Both sides went into the interval deadlocked, with KCCA left to reflect on missed opportunities.

In search of a breakthrough, the KCCA technical bench rang the changes early in the second half, introducing Brian Jjara and Derrick Nsibambi.

Further substitutions followed, but the desired spark in the final third remained elusive.

Maroons, meanwhile, looked increasingly dangerous on the counterattack and nearly snatched a late winner, prompting anxious moments for the visitors’ defense. In the end, neither side could find the decisive touch.

The final whistle confirmed a 0–0 draw, with Matovu deservedly named Man of the Match after a commanding and assured performance in goal.

The result leaves KCCA FC in third place on 27 points, level with Police FC, who recorded a 2–0 victory over Calvary courtesy of goals from Brian James Obedi and Umar Kasumba.

League leaders Vipers SC are yet to play. Maroons FC remain seventh with 16 points, taking confidence from a solid showing against one of the title contenders.

Attention now turns to Match Day 14, where KCCA will host UPDF FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium on January 27.

On the same day, Maroons will make the trip to Entebbe to face UPPC FC.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Ambrose Kigozi’s solitary strike was enough to hand Entebbe UPPC a 1–0 win over UPDF FC at the Bombo Military Grounds.
