Uganda’s motorsport icons Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba were celebrated in glittering fashion at the FIA Awards Gala in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after being officially crowned Africa Rally Champions.
Their triumph marks a monumental milestone, making them only the second Ugandan crew ever to receive such continental recognition at the prestigious global ceremony.
The Moil Rally duo sealed their place among Africa’s elite after a dramatic season, clinching the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) title by a razor-thin margin, just one point ahead of Kenya’s rising star, Samman Vohra.

Their decisive moment came in September during Rally Tanzania, where they outpaced Vohra to end Uganda’s 26-year drought for the continent’s premier rally crown.
This historic feat revives memories of the legendary late Charles Muhangi and co-driver Stephen Byaruhanga, who last delivered the title to Uganda in 1999.
Now, Nasser and Katumba join that exclusive club, further solidifying their legacy.
Receiving their accolade before a global audience and flanked by their full technical crew, the Ugandan champions were honored alongside regional motorsport titlists from every corner of the world.
For Nasser, the continental crown adds yet another jewel to an already glittering résumé: two Uganda National Rally Championships, a Tanzania Rally title, an ARC2 category championship, and now the ultimate continental triumph.
