Calvary FC’s long-awaited rise to the Uganda Premier League was greeted with jubilation in Yumbe, but the realities of topflight football have quickly dimmed the early celebrations.
The newly promoted side has endured a difficult start to life in the elite division, with Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat to UPDF FC adding to their growing list of setbacks.
Emmanuel Ochen’s solitary strike at Midigo Primary School Playground proved the difference on the day, condemning Calvary to their fifth loss in six outings.
The club’s only point this season came from a draw earlier in the campaign, leaving them anchored at the foot of the table.

The team’s troubles were compounded earlier before the international break when head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera parted ways with the club despite having been appointed just before the season kicked off.
Mwera has since moved on to Express FC, taking over from Badru Kaddu, who joined NEC FC.
Calvary’s fixture list offered little comfort to the league newcomers, with their first four games played away from home.
Yet even the familiar surroundings of Midigo have offered no reprieve, as defeats to Entebbe UPPC FC and UPDF FC have further dampened hopes of an early turnaround.
With pressure mounting and results proving elusive, Calvary FC will need to dig deep to steady their campaign and rediscover the spark that powered their promotion.
