Uganda Premier League side NEC FC has confirmed that it will step onto the pitch this Thursday at the newly-renovated Nakivubo Stadium, where they are scheduled to take on URA FC, despite openly voicing their discontent with the controversial league reforms.
The announcement comes in the aftermath of NEC’s continental heartbreak, having been bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup by Kenya’s Nairobi United on the away goals rule.

With the continental dream abruptly clipped, the Bugolobi-based side is now fully turning its gaze back to domestic duty.
“The focus shifts to the mandatory fixture, which we must play despite our disagreement with the new league format, as other engagements continue,” read a bold statement shared on NEC FC’s official social media platforms.
NEC are among the three heavyweight clubs, alongside record 16-time champions SC Villa and reigning champions Vipers SC who have been at the forefront of rejecting the newly-introduced reforms that have dramatically reshaped the Premier League structure.
While NEC have already confirmed their participation, all eyes remain on Villa and Vipers, whose silence continues to cast doubt on Saturday’s blockbuster double header at Nakivubo, where SC Villa are scheduled to square off with KCCA FC and Vipers SC expected to lock horns with Kitara FC.
